The design approach of the group deals with the integration of a multi-disciplinary work in order to achieve an innovative solution. As designed for optimal solar power and integrated technological elements such as photovoltaics, solar thermal collectors and building-integrated PV, among other pioneering and innovative systems, technologies and products. The team is inspired by the Israeli industry and the energy solutions it has to offer to the world and to the success of the team during the competition. Alongside these modern technologies, the team will also include distinctive cultural features, such as vegetation, or the “mashrabiya” (a type of oriel window enclosed with carved wooden latticework) which had both a functional and aesthetic significance in the design of the home or building.

 

The design will provide a vertical system for home-grown food and herbs, using recycled water. The furniture will be designed to be multi-purpose, combining several functions, including public spaces. It will be produced from sustainable and long-lasting materials such as bamboo and fiber-cement boards.

Using a modular approach, the structural elements will be covered by panels, which can be easily and affordably replaced.

*Lower costs - for day to day living and improving the quality of life for the families who live in the Cactus home

 

*Sharing resources such as heavy appliances for laundry and entertainment areas, recycling and utilizing shared garden areas to grow food etc.

*Team Israel has set a goal to make the cactus home the most energy-efficient, intelligent and interactive home on the market today.

 

*The Cactus home will be built according to the Israeli green building standard and the Chinese 3 star green building standard
